Warmest Wishes

by Perk's Pollinators on November 30, 2011

My deepest thanks to so many of you that have given me great feedback and supported Perk's launching. I appreciate it more than I can adequately express!

As we move into the winter months and the holiday season, the bees are hunkering down. They've reduced their population, raised the hardy winter bees, and are intent upon clustering in order to keep the queen and one another warm during the cold months. Did you know that they will keep their nest at a toasty 93 degrees? You can imagine how important their honey stores become - helping them to create the warmth needed to survive the winter!

In the meantime, we beekeepers are cleaning the hive boxes that will not be used until spring. This is the perfect time to gather the golden beeswax used in Perk's products - fresh and rich with nutrients. Many folks that I met at the holiday fair this past weekend in St. Helena, wondered if our balms contain honey or pollen. Here at Perk's, we use only minimally filtered beeswax. You can rest assured that our balms contain all of the beneficial ingredients that the bees intended - pollen, honey and propolis.

A bit of background: Beeswax is a nutrient-rich substance produced by bees in order to make honeycomb. In our products, we use it to help soften skin and create a long-lasting protective coating against the elements. It is also a naturally nourishing moisturizer that kills germs as it heals and soothes the skin. Beeswax obtains its golden color from the propolis, honey and bee pollen inside. These materials are produced by bees and they are known for their incredible health benefits. The beeswax helps lock in the skin’s own moisture, nourishing skin cells and creating a barrier against the destruction caused by the environment. Propolis kills germs and helps heal the skin. Beeswax is a pure, natural wax that human beings have been using for hundreds of years. It is also edible and has been used to coat foods and medicines.

With that in mind, we are so excited to introduce our brand new Cook's Balm! Here I have my friend, Lennie, to thank! Check out her website and her absolutely delicious culinary sea salts (and throw that table salt away!) :  PhilippineSeaSalts.com  You'll find our Cook's Balm to be delicately fragranced with Grapefruit essential oil and perfectly safe to keep on your hands while cooking! You will not find petroleum based or artificial ingredients here. As with all of Perk's products, all that you apply to your skin is safe enough to eat!

Lastly, our Salt Scrub has had a makeover! With the addition of rose petals and a larger, food grade plastic container, our new and lovely Lavender Rose Salt Scrub is another perfect gift for your friends and family this holiday.

Wishing you all a warm and peaceful holiday,
